When people think of speaking in public this generally falls into the one of three categories; a talk, a presentation or a speech.
Talks – this can be anything you want to say in front of a group, for example introducing yourself, explaining something to a number of people at work, or telling a story.
Presentations – This is the area that many people feel that they need help with because it is often so important in how you earn a living, perform in your job or profession, and achieve success.
For this reason presentations are often the thing that people would like to practice. Of course presentations can be for outside of work as well including for hobbies, clubs, and interest groups.
Speeches – the type of speech that everybody has heard of is the best man speech and as well as this type of speech there are those given on many other occasions including family and social situations, hosting, after dinner speaking, politics, work, and in speaking clubs such as Toastmasters and the Association of Speakers Clubs.
In addition to the above, speaking can be thought of as including communication with only one or two other people. You will see in these paths to speaking that this way of thinking is a key to unlocking your potential to speak to much larger audiences.
Our goal at The Speaking Well is to help you improve your speaking in all areas and in that regard we would like you to read, hear, and see how the whole process of speaking, and achieving the confidence to speak, can be easily learned and acted on, turning you into a successful speaker.
